Activity Summary

Historically, cases in which inpatients requiring definitive airway management before transfer to a critical care unit necessitate deploying the medical emergency response team. Since 2019 we rely on the airway response team (ART), a small interdisciplinary team of our own design, for a streamlined approach to airway management. With engaged stakeholders, we continually review our process, and our data show significant improvement both in patient outcomes and team dynamics.

Objectives

  • List the resources needed to design a specialized team of experts for emergency airway management.
  • Describe the complexity of medical management during airway emergencies.
  • Acquire tools to evaluate and improve interdisciplinary team dynamics.
