Activity Summary

The scarcity of certified progressive care nurses is worrisome when considering the increasing acuity of the national patient population. Increased certification is shown to reduce harm, improve patient and employee satisfaction, and support nursing excellence standards providing meaningful return on investment for organizations. This session covers the current certification shortage, who qualifies to test for PCCN, failed testing strategies, and adjustments made to our preparatory program. We outline steps to develop and implement a curriculum to support nurses’ readiness for testing.

Objectives

  • Identify the growing need for progressive care nurses and the potential barriers to obtaining PCCN certification.
  • Describe methods for implementing a structured and supportive learning environment for achieving PCCN certification.
  • Analyze metrics illustrating the impact of PCCN bootcamp on patient outcomes, certification rates, employee engagement and retention.
