Activity Summary

This session reviews pediatric sedation techniques for the advanced practice provider. Participants gain insights into the principles, practices and challenges associated with sedating critically ill children. Key topics include goals of sedation in pediatric ICU patients, commonly used medications, dosing strategies and how to tailor sedation plans to individual patient needs. The lecture also covers potential complications, methods to assess sedation depth and the importance of balancing sedation with minimizing risks of oversedation or withdrawal. Updated evidence-based practice guidelines and recent advancements are discussed. Upon completion of the session, the audience acquires knowledge to improve sedation practices in pediatric critical care. Pharmacology content = 50%.
