Activity Summary

Unplanned perioperative hypothermia (UPH) affects postoperative delirium (POD) in critically ill noncardiac surgical patients. If you’d like to better understand the impact of those effects, consider attending this discussion of prospective, observational cohort research to assess patients' CAM-ICU and RASS scores, collected blood samples and measured core temperatures. The results of statistical analyses, including T-tests, chi-square and multivariate logistic regression, used to estimate POD risk associated with UPH are also discussed. Research findings, as well as clinical research challenges, are presented with an intermediate level of complexity.

Objectives

  • Describe how unplanned perioperative hypothermia impacts postoperative delirium in critically ill non-cardiac surgery patients.
  • List the difficulties encountered during the clinical research process solutions described in this study.
  • Discuss the key results and insights gained from the research.
