Activity Summary

This session is designed for nurses with foundational skills in dysrhythmia interpretation and 12 lead ECG interpretation. Because conduction blocks are not seen on a daily basis, the criteria to identify heart blocks, bundle branch blocks and fascicular blocks are not simple. Using case studies with rhythm strips and 12 lead ECGs, participants have the opportunity to identify the different types of conduction system blocks.

Objectives

  • Identify the difference between second-degree Mobitz type II heart block and third-degree heart block on a rhythm strip.
  • Differentiate right bundle branch block from left bundle branch block on a 12 lead ECG.
  • Define the term bifascicular block.
