Healthy Work Environments in a Crisis

Webinar Summary

COVID-19 has overwhelmed hospitals, threatened our physical and mental well-being, and revealed the flaws in our health care system. AACN has long championed implementation of the “Standards for Establishing and Sustaining Healthy Work Environments” (HWE) as a key priority in empowering acute and critical care nurses to make their optimal contribution. During a time of crisis, do these same HWE standards still apply?

Join nurse leader and AACN past president Vicki Good for a webinar presentation exploring the relationship between work environment and nurse well-being, particularly in the context of crisis mode. You will learn about the six HWE standards and the challenges of implementing them during COVID-19. Equally important, you will learn specific strategies for contributing to an HWE that bring you and your colleagues together — rather than pulling you apart — during this difficult time.

Presenter

Vicki S Good, DNP, RN, CPPS, CENP

Vicki Good is a national nursing leader with executive-level experience in nursing, quality and safety, and education. In her current role as executive director of nursing for Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri, Good is responsible for a Level I Emergency Trauma Center (STEMI and Level I Stroke) with over 73,000 visits per year. She also writes, presents and serves as a subject matter expert on a variety of healthcare topics — such as patient safety, communication, burnout and establishing joy and resilience in the healthcare setting — and is a past president of AACN’s board of directors. Good’s many professional accolades include a Sigma Theta Tau Excellence in Nursing Practice and Management award, a NurseWeek Nursing Excellence Award in Teaching, and being named one of Becker’s Hospital Review’s “50 Experts Leading in the Field of Patient Safety.” In addition, she is a lifetime member of AACN.
