The first editions of “AACN Scope and Standards for Progressive Care Nursing Practice” and “AACN Standards for Appropriate Staffing in Adult Progressive Care” were published in 2025. This session reviews the development and purpose of these foundational standard-setting documents to guide progressive care nursing practice.

Julie S Miller, BSN, RN, CCRN

Julie Miller is a clinical practice specialist with the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. She is co-editor of “AACN Scope and Standards for Progressive Care Nursing Practice,” “AACN Tele-critical Care Nursing Practice: An Expert Consensus Statement Supporting Acute, Progressive and Critical Care 2022,” and “AACN Competence Framework for Progressive and Critical Care: Initial Competency 2022.” She serves as a content expert, ensuring evidence-based content is the foundation of AACN’s clinical offerings. Julie’s passion is to help nursing professional development practitioners succeed by using current evidence-based resources when planning and implementing their orientation, competency assessment and training programs.

Sarah Delgado, DNP, RN, ACNP

Sarah Delgado, DNP, RN, ACNP

Sarah Delgado serves as clinical practice research & policy coordinator for PIH Health in Los Angeles. She previously worked with AACN on the Strategic Advocacy Team, where she co-led the development of “AACN Standards for Appropriate Staffing” and helped facilitate the Nurse Staffing Task Force. Based on her clinical experience as an acute care nurse practitioner, Sarah focused on palliative care and chronic disease management. Previously, she served as a faculty member and co-authored texts on acute and critical care nursing. Sarah's passion is to create work environments where nurses optimize their contributions, build effective relationships with patients and families, and leverage their expertise to improve care delivery processes.
