The new Essentials of Neonatal Critical Care Orientation (ENCCO) is a program of online courses providing acute and critical care nurses with evidence-based, standardized education and tools needed to care for babies in the newborn nursery and critically ill patients in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

Developed by Children’s Hospital Association and distributed by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, ENCCO highlights include:

  • Body systems approach: Courses orient nurses to care for newborns to critically ill neonates, using a familiar framework.
  • Interactive case scenarios and practice activities: Applied learning opportunities facilitate knowledge transfer, bridging the gap between school learning and clinical reality.
  • Contemporary instructional design: Graphics and other design elements promote learner engagement, reinforcement of key concepts, and knowledge retention and application.
