The nurses in the pediatric CICU at Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital noticed that caregivers had little understanding of the type of procedure the children were undergoing. This low health literacy led to low satisfaction scores and poor outcomes. The unit nurses sought to provide the caregivers with the tools to make informed care decisions, thus improving the patient and caregiver experience.
