Audit FAQ
Why am I being audited?
In compliance with standard regulatory practices and a commitment to maintaining the integrity of our credentials, AACN Certification Corporation conducts random audits following submission of exam applications.
What should I include with my audit documentation?
- Copy of current, unencumbered RN or APRN license
- Verification of clinical/practice hours form
How do I submit my audit documentation to AACN?
Email a single PDF containing your complete audit documentation to certaudit@aacn.org with "AUDIT SUBMISSION - (last name)" in the subject line.
When is the audit documentation due?
All materials must be received by the due date on the initial exam audit form.
My RN/APRN license does not show an expiration date, or my state no longer sends out wallet cards. How should I provide proof of my unencumbered and current RN/APRN license?
Your RN/APRN license verification can be printed to PDF via the free license lookup tool at nursys.com or from your state board of nursing's online/website verification tool.
What should I do if I completed my hours at multiple facilities before applying to take the exam, either because I changed jobs or worked as a travel nurse?
You must return a copy of the initial exam audit form for each facility, completed by a qualified verifier, to meet the overall minimum number of hours to be eligible to sit for your exam.
What if I can't submit this documentation by the audit due date listed on the form?
We understand that circumstances may prevent you from responding in a timely manner. To request an extension, please contact us at certaudit@aacn.org.
What if I fail to respond to an audit?
Failure to respond to an audit will result in revocation of your AACN certification. Please note you must wait three years to apply for and take any AACN certification exam after meeting initial exam eligibility.
What if I fail an audit?
Failure to pass an audit will result in revocation of your AACN certification. Please note you must wait three years to apply for and take any AACN certification exam after meeting initial exam eligibility.
Who can serve as a verifier?
Your clinical supervisor or a professional colleague (RN or physician) may be a verifier. A human resources representative may not be a verifier.
How long will the audit review take, and how will I be notified?
We will review your audit packet and respond by email within 30 business days of receiving the required audit documentation.
