The hematology modular course provides an in-depth overview of assessment, management, nursing priorities, interventions and evaluation for managing patients with a variety of hematologic and coagulation disorders. Topics include laboratory evaluation for hematologic and coagulation disorders, nursing priorities and treatment options for managing patients with thrombocytopenia, heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT), disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), anemia, venous thromboembolism (VTE), drug-induced coagulopathies and reversal agents for anticoagulants. Nursing priorities are addressed for patients receiving blood product transfusions and assessing for transfusion complications, including pulmonary edema, transfusion reaction, transfusion-related acute lung injury (TRALI) and transfusion-associated circulatory overload (TACO). Within each topic area, you will explore assessment tools and diagnostics, measures to intervene for alterations and tips to prevent complications.
